Here's a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the hammerhead and eagle ray arrival. The healthy animals immediately adjusted to their new homes and are doing incredibly well.
We are excited to announce that we now have four scalloped hammerhead shark pups and two juvenile spotted eagle rays in a newly constructed aquatic holding area. They’ll stay in their temporary home behind-the-scenes until the new Pacific Seas Aquarium opens next summer. The six animals were transferred over the weekend in a highly choreographed operation. The sharks and rays immediately adjusted to their new homes - they are healthy, beautiful animals, and being cared for by extraordinary staff. In the coming weeks, more hammerheads and eagle rays are scheduled to arrive at the Zoo – including green sea turtles! The arrival of these animals is the second milestone in the course of one week toward the eventual opening of the long-awaited Pacific Seas Aquarium. We’re grateful to the voters of Tacoma who made construction of the new aquarium possible. Stay up to date on aquarium updates at www.pdza.org and read the full press release at bit.ly/2uMOkVH.
